AAPI New Jersey proudly partners with the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development to educate and empower workers about their rights and benefits. We provide outreach on critical programs such as NJ Paid Family and Medical Leave, Earned Sick Leave, Unemployment Insurance, and Domestic Worker’s Rights—resources available to all workers, regardless of immigration status.

With over 1 million AAPIs in New Jersey, we are dedicated to ensuring that workers can advocate for their rights and well-being in the workplace. AAPI New Jersey is committed to empowering communities through in-language education, training, and outreach to build a stronger, more informed workforce for all.
If you have to take time off to care for your own or your loved ones’ health, recover from pregnancy or bond with a new child, or cope with domestic sexual violence, you should know that most NJ workers are covered by paid family and medical leave, and your job may be protected under federal and/or state law. You may be eligible to receive 85% of your average weekly wages, up to a maximum. See the current year’s max benefit level and eligibility requirements, and apply online for cash benefits, at myleavebenefits.nj.gov.
Most New Jersey employees, including full-time, part-time, and temporary workers, are entitled to earned sick leave. This paid time off can be used to care for your own or a family member’s health, address domestic or sexual violence, attend a child’s school-related meeting or event, or care for children when schools or childcare are closed due to a public health emergency. If your employer has an existing sick leave policy allowing employees to use sick leave, it must meet or exceed the requirements of the law.
New Jersey offers stronger worker protections than federal law in key areas, including pregnancy accommodations, a higher minimum wage, paid family leave, and healthcare continuation for smaller employers. At AAPI New Jersey, we believe that all workers—regardless of immigration status or job classification—deserve to know their rights. By empowering workers with knowledge, we aim to combat exploitation and build a community where workers can advocate for themselves and each other.
Unemployment Insurance (UI) is a program that gives financial support to people who lose their jobs or whose work hours are reduced through no fault of their own. Learn more about the eligibility requirements, benefits, and how to apply.
The New Jersey Domestic Workers Bill of Rights provides workplace protections, no matter your immigration status or how you get paid. Your employer cannot retaliate against you for exercising your work rights. If they do, they can face severe penalties. Learn more about your rights and protections.
