The Asian American Coalition of New Jersey (AACNJ) weaves together AAPI-serving groups across our state who share a commitment to realizing the power of collective action to advance multiracial equity, health, and justice through organizing, advocacy, policy research, education, and representation. Through convenings, trainings and capacity-building support, and subgrants, we are building a strong ecosystem for grassroots AAPI organizing that can be a champion for our communities and work in cross-racial coalitions to advance progressive policy goals.
Members of the Asian American Coalition of New Jersey will have access to networks and resources to help their organizations grow. Membership is free and has two categories: organizational and individual.
AAPI New Jersey is proud to provide subgrants as part of our efforts to support the growth of strong grassroots organization and civic engagement efforts through the Asian American Coalition of New Jersey.
AAPI New Jersey also supports grassroots organizations across the state that center civic engagement work on Asian Americans. For eligible programs and organizations, AAPI New Jersey will consider microgrants up to $500.
July 2025
On July 29, we brought together over 50 leaders from across the state to North Jersey for an incredible day of connecting, learning, and power-building. We held a presentation on birthright citizenship titled, “I Am the Fourthteenth,” a Know Your Rights and Community Safety Training, and a panel on the impact and importance of storytelling to AAPI communities. May 2025
On May 22, we returned for our second Asian American Advocacy Day in Trenton, bringing AAPIs to the capitol to advocate for critical issues for Asian Americans in New Jersey. With over 75 participants, ranging from beginners to experts, and a large youth contingent, we spoke with legislators about issues such as the Immigrant Trust Act, New Jersey Voting Rights Act, Teach Asian American Stories Budget Advocacy, and the Vote 16 Act. April 2025
On April 13, we cohosted with AAPI of East Brunswick a Central Jersey Convening with nearly 40 leaders from across the state to discuss leadership training with Kim Conetta (AAPI of East Brunswick) and Jai Patel (South Asian Families of Metuchen) and enjoyed a presentation on “Leading with Your Values: A Roadmap to Public Service” workshop by Jose Galarza (New American Leaders). October 2024
On October 28, we hosted what we believe to be New Jersey’s first ever Asian American Advocacy Day in Trenton, bringing AAPIs to the capitol to build our advocacy muscle and ensure our elected officials hear our voices on issues like voting rights, immigrant rights, criminal justice reform, and health equity. With over 50 participants, we had the opportunity to speak to legislators, attend sessions, and hallway lobby. Participants also attended the Democracy Fall Festival, hosted by the NJVRA Coalition. On September 29, we hosted a half-day in-person convening with over 40 leaders from across the state to discuss organization/field needs, policy priorities, and to network and learn from each other. We held a panel on policy priorities, including the NJVRA and Immigrant Trust Act (featuring Nuzhat Chowdhury, NJISJ and Kat Phan, NJAIJ) and a second panel on mental health and integenerational initiatives (featuring Amman Seera, Sikh Coalition; Yuna Youn, KSC, and Subha Bolisetty, NAMI-NJ), plus an Upstander Intervention training.
April 2024
On April 21, we launched the Asian American Coalition of New Jersey strategy session. Over 40 AAPI leaders from across the state joined the event, which featured panels on collective organizing (featuring Arati Kreibich; Ronak Patel, Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF); Amy Torres, New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice), and Base Building (featuring Maria Katrina Eng, AAPI of East Brunswick; Kapsong Kim, Minkwon Center for Community Action; Roslyne Shiao, AAPI NJ).
AAPI New Jersey has assembled a directory of AAPI organizations in New Jersey and beyond that serve our communities. This is an evolving list – if you notice an organization is missing or needs an update, please reach out to AACNJ@aapinewjersey.org.
In 2023, we formally changed our name to AAPI New Jersey to reflect the statewide priorities and activities that this group of committed community members and advocates now supports.
