Min Jin Lee returns to the Montclair Literary Festival with her new novel American Hagwon.

Lee last visited in 2018 to talk about her novel Pachinko, her National Book Award finalist. Now she’s back, with a brand-new work in hand that has already appeared on The New York Times‘ Novels Everyone Will Be Talking About in 2026, and Bookclubs’ Top Book Club Picks for 2026. Authors like Tara Westover, Roxane Gay, and Colm Tóibín described the work as an immersive, “stunning achievement” that is both “brilliantly imagined” and deeply heartfelt.
